Who is Lara Spencer?

Lara Christine Von Seelen was born in Garden City, New York State USA, on 19 June 1969 – her zodiac sign is Gemini, and she holds American nationality. She’s a TV presenter, who’s probably known best for being the co-anchor of the American TV program “Good Morning America”.

Early life and education

Lara was raised in Garden City alongside her sisters Lisa and Karen and brothers Kirk and Keith, by their father Richard Ernest and mother Carolyn von Seelen; not a lot is known about Lara’s family, because she respects their privacy.

Lara was amongst the best in her class while attending a local elementary school, which was why her parents began urging her to focus on her education and pursue a college degree. She studied at Garden City High School, and was interested in many activities during her four years there, perhaps mostly focused on practicing creative writing, as well as writing for the school’s newspaper. Lara also practiced springboard and platform diving, and entered several national competitions.

She matriculated in 1987 and then enrolled at Pennsylvania State University on an athletic scholarship, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism in 1991; in the same year, she was named All American Athlete.

Lara’s career

Upon graduating, Lara volunteered in the NBC Page program, and had an opportunity to work alongside experienced reporters as a way to learn more about the job. She was then hired by the CBS-affiliated TV station WDEF, a job for which she had to move to Chattanooga in Tennessee; the job was quite exhausting for Lara, as she was a reporter, editor, producer, photographer and news van driver.

She stayed at WDEF for around a year, prior to joining News 12 Long Island, where after two years Lara started anchoring the newscast at 3 a.m., and it’s widely recogniseded that her breakthrough was her coverage of the TWA Flight 800 crash.

She was then hired by the multinational commercial broadcast TV network American Broadcasting Company (ABC) in 1999, becoming the national correspondent for their show “Good Morning America”, a job she’s been holding for more than 20 years now, however, back in 2018, the magazine “People” revealed that she was planning to quit so that she could focus on DuffKat Media, her own production company which she had launched a year earlier.

Other works

Lara created and produced the TV game-show “It’s Worth What?”, which debuted on 19 July 2011, but ran for only a single season; it was hosted by Cedric the Entertainer.

Because she’s passionate about interior designing, she has also created and produced the shows “I Brake for Yard Sales” and “Flea Market Flip”.

Lara published her first book “I Brake for Yard Sales” in April 2012, about how to decorate your rooms with secondhand items. She published her second book “Flea Market Fabulous: Designing Gorgeous Rooms with Vintage Treasures” on 16 September 2014, also about interior designing.

Presence on social media networks

Lara is highly active on Instagram, and is today followed by close to 400,000 people, while she’s uploaded nearly 2,500 pictures onto the network; the majority of these have been taken during her everyday life, and thus reveal a lot about Lara, including the fact that she’s passionate about travelling, and has been all around the world for both work and pleasure.

Lara has also showed her fans that she’s a lover of dogs, as her pet dog Dan the Man can be seen featured in many of her Instagram pictures.

She launched her Twitter account in March 2009, and it’s today followed by close to 300,000 people, while she’s tweeted nearly 10,000 times; Lara mostly writes to share news with her fans, but also her opinion on various matters.

She has a Facebook profile, but seems to be using it just to keep in touch with her closest friends and family members.

Lara doesn’t have her own TikTok account, but many videos featuring her have been uploaded onto the network by other users, and these have been watched over five million times.

Husband and children

Lara has married twice. She exchanged vows with David Haffenreffer on 30 September 2000 at St. Andrew’s Dune Church, in a private ceremony attended by only the closest of their friends and family members; David’s also a journalist, who once worked at the TV news network CNNfn. On 22 January 2002 Lara gave birth to their son Duff, and their daughter Kate followed in 2004; the family lived in Greenwich, Connecticut prior to Lara and David divorcing in June 2015.

She revealed in January 2018 that she was engaged to Richard McVey, an American entrepreneur who’s today the chairman and CEO of the electronic trading company MarketAxess; the two met on a blind date set by a mutual friend. Lara and Richard married on 1 September 2018.

Lara hasn’t spoken of any other men whom she has perhaps been with, and as of March 2022, she’s married to her second husband Richard McVey, and has two children with her first husband David Haffenreffer.

Hobbies and interesting facts

Lara’s a fashionista, and is trying to keep up with all of the latest fashion trends by reading magazines such as “Elle” and “Vogue”; she’s also a bit of a shopaholic, as she goes shopping for clothes every week.

Summer is Lara’s favorite season, mostly because she likes to sun tan and drink cocktails at the beach, while she also enjoys going yachting.

Lara enjoys attending football and basketball games, as well as various ice hockey and baseball games.

She likes to watch movies in her spare time, and her favorite actor and actress are Tom Hanks and Amanda Seyfried, while a couple of her favorite films include “Saving Private Ryan”, “Sleepless in Seattle” and “Dear John”.

Age, height and net worth

Lara’s age is 52. She has long blonde hair and brown eyes, her height is 5ft 10ins (1.8m) and she weighs around 155lbs (70kgs).

As of March 2022, her net worth has been estimated at more than $10 million.
